President Trump’s Senate Impeachment

Trial Will Be Showdown Between Senate Democratic Leader, Chuck Schumer and Senate Majority leader, Mitch O’Connell DW(USA).Americans watched with bated breath last week as The House judiciary committee advanced both articles of impeachment against President Trump, setting up a vote before the full house to take place later this week. The vote itself only took about five minutes, resulting in the fiercely divided committee approving both articles; abuse of power and obstruction of justice, making Trump the third president in American history to be impeached. What’s next? Both articles will now go to the House floor for a vote later this week, where the Democrats, who outnumber the republicans 233 to 197, are expected to triumph. If the house impeaches the President, the Senate will then hold a trial in the new year to consider if he should be removed from office. Schumer Vs. McConnell: This is an important historical marker – Senate Democratic Leader, Charles Schumer has laid out the Democratic demands for how this trial should look. But his plans diverge sharply from those of …

Just How Comfortable Are Americans With Transgender People?

Miriam Webster’s Dictionary Just Announced The Non-Binary Pronoun “They” As The 2019 Word Of The Year DW-USA. D’Loko Kid, or D’Lo,  grew up in a small immigrant community in a Los Angeles suburb, and he knew from a very early age that he wasn’t like other girls. In his new play, “To T Or Not TO T,” he explores what it was like to grow up and finally find the language to express how it felt to not identify with the gender that was assigned to him at birth. “Trans is a spectrum, I think that respecting how people identify is the same as respecting what name they go by,” says D’Lo. To be mindful of people who identify as transgender, gender non-conforming, or non-binary, Americans are scrambling to keep up with the ever-changing vocabulary and create more all-inclusive spaces. In most major cities, a gender-neutral bathroom-option has become the new normal, many schools have created private “safe” changing areas in their locker rooms, and several private schools have eliminated “boys” and “girls” uniforms, choosing …

Female Tackle Football is Quickly Becoming America’s New Favorite Pastime

One of The Fastest Growing Sports Franchises in The World Isn’t What You think DW-USA.Marissa Lopez and her sister Miriah Lopez, excelled at a variety of sports while growing up in a small suburb of Dallas, Texas. Their mother never missed one of their volleyball or softball games and cheered her daughters on through every championship win. But when it came to the sport they loved the most, tackle football, their mother put her foot down. “No football,” she said. “I don’t want you girls getting hurt.” American women’s gridiron football isn’t a new concept, as early as the 1920’s, NFL teams such as The Yellow Jackets fielded women’s teams for halftime entertainment. And in 1970, Patricia Barzi Palinkas became the first American woman to ever play on a men’s semipro tackle football team. But in 2018, despite the warnings of their mother, Marissa and Miriah both tried out for the LFL, the Legends Football League. The LFL is considered to be on-pace to exceed the National Football League in the total number of international …

America’s Mass Shootings Have Reached Pandemic Proportions

But Is Outlawing Guns The Answer? One Gun Owners Perspective 2019 will go down in American history as the deadliest mass shooting year ever with an average of 365 shootings (that’s more than once per day) totally in 34,365 gun deaths. Forty-three percent of US households report owning at least one gun, compared to 12 percent in Italy, where there were 307 shooting deaths last year, or the UK, where handguns have been outlawed, and they average 50-60 gun-deaths per year. Firearms are the second leading cause of death for American children (car crashes are first). In 2017, 144 American police officers were killed in the line of duty, whereas firearms killed 2,462 school-age children. So why haven’t Americans banned guns outright? Or why haven’t they installed a long list of tests that applicants must pass before gaining access to a small pool of guns like in Japan? I spoke with gun enthusiast and Arizona resident Bryan Evenson, to get his thoughts on this controversial matter. “London is having massive problems with stabbings, and France …

A Black Man is Running For Mayor Of A Californian City So Why Are Democrats Campaigning Against Him?

Major Williams and his son Lord DW-USA.Less than one year from now, Americans will hold their 46th presidential election. Many are predicting that President number 45, Donald J. Trump, will be reelected. Others are positive that one of the many hopeful Democratic candidates will become the 46th president of The United States. And while most Americans are focused on this historically significant race for the oval, another race has caught the attention of some of our more savvy, Southern Californian voters. Major Williams is a black, 41-year-old church-going man who resides with his wife and three sons in Pasadena, California. Pasadena is one of the state’s oldest cities, home to The Rose Bowl and JPL, and known for its Tournament Of Roses Parade. Pasadena is also home to a great many Democrats and a decent number of black voters. Given all of these factors, it would seem that Major Williams is the right color, age, and description to win over the citizens of Pasadena. election. But his party affiliation may make the journey harder than …

Is The New Term, “Self-Partnered” The Answer to America’s Dating Fatigue?

Women Are Growing Tired Of Checking The “Single” Box DW-USA.Emma Watson set Twitter on fire last week when she used “Self-Partnered” in a Tweet to describe her single status. While her words prompted the usual groans from my more skeptical friends, there were a few for whom this new term resonated deeply. “Self-partnering is empowering,” says my friend, Jane. “Why not claim myself instead of waiting for some man who may never come along to claim me?” The latest polls show that over 116 million single people are living in the United States, and 53% of those are women. And with the overabundance of choices in online dating apps, many fear that America has become an unfeeling, “hook-up” culture, leaving some women who are craving the warmth of a loving, committed relationship, out in the cold. So, could self-partnering be the answer? When I first pressed Jane about the benefits of self-partnering, she seemed a little stumped, but later on, she texted me this list: Benefits of self-partnering: Independence, not shaving my legs (very often), …

Here’s Why America’s Surging Homeless Populations Are Everyone’s Problem

DW-USA.A homeless encampment is when several people make shelters together outdoors, lining city sidewalks with tents or makeshift huts. Five years ago, it would have been unheard of that, in a neighborhood like mine, there could be an encampment so close to homes and schools. But now I, along with others on my lovely tree-lined street, pass by these folks, without even so much as a sideways glance. America’s homeless problem, as it’s called, has now reached epidemic proportions, with upwards of 60,000 people living on the streets in Los Angeles and even more in New York City. These numbers include approximately 15,000 homeless families with nearly 22 000 homeless children sleeping in shelters, in their cars, or in encampments.  A third world country is characterized by a list of qualifiers, poor infrastructure, improper sanitation, and limited access to healthcare are just some of them. By this definition, Los Angeles and New York’s skid row-areas can now easily be classified as third world cities. But, in the past few months, we’ve added two new items …
