Donald Trump towards the 2020 elections

DW-USA.Donald J. Trump, the president of the US, has decided to participate in the 2020 Presidential Elections. He has started the campaign for his reelection as the president of the United States of America. He is relying more on Twitter. He tweets 10-20 times a day on average in the current time. He has taken Twitter as a best option of staying close to his supporters and answering his opponents. Trump came from a business background and he has focused on the economy of the US. The economy of the US improved in the Trump era. If the economy holds up then Trump will win the 2020 elections easily. The unemployment rate has fallen to 50-years low in the US under the leadership of Trump. Trump has faced criticism over his military decisions. The Turkish invasion of Syria after the announcement of the withdrawal of US forces from Syria was key in this regard. Some of the Republicans including Lindsey Graham called it the biggest mistake of Trump. The White House criticized the decision of …

Vertice Conte-Merkel: quali risultati?

Brazil’s former president Lula freed

DW-BRAZIL.Brazil’s former president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has been released from prison, where he stayed for a year and a half, after a supreme court ruling. Lula, who was serving a 12 year corruption and laundering money sentence, was greeted by family, friends and hundreds of supporters wearing red vests emblazoned with his face, waving red flags and “Free Lula” signs outside the jail in the city of Curitiba. There also was his new girlfriend, Rosangela da Silva, who tweeted friday evening “tomorrow I’ll pick you up! Wait for me!” and on Friday Lula presented her to supporters who shouted “kiss, kiss!” How was the process? His early release was made possible by a Supreme Court decision on Thursday night that determined defendants can remain free until they have exhausted all appeals. That ruling reversed a previous decision that had helped put dozens of powerful politicians and business leaders behind bars. Lula was imprisoned in April 2018 after a sentence for corruption and money laundering handed down by the controversial judge Sergio Moro was …

Commissione Segre: un po’ di chiarezza

DW-Italia.

Tanzania Divided Over Polls

DW-Tanzania.Trouble brews in Tanzania as the country prepares for her general election in 2020. With campaigns on for civic elections to be held this month, all eyes are on the Government on one side and the country’s opposition on the other. The opposition has, on the other hand, threatened to boycott the elections citing unfair disqualification of its candidates. At the same time, the government has affirmed that the elections will go on as scheduled citing most candidates were disqualified on technical grounds. With this standoff, which side will carry the day? Is Tanzania’s electoral democracy on the test? As the saying goes: Where there is smoke, there is fire! With the kind of outcry and threats by the opposition parties to boycott the civic elections scheduled for November 24, 2019, it is clear that there are electoral processes that undermine electoral democracy in Tanzania. According to “The Citizen”, some opposition parties and analysts have argued that failure to address the trends witnessed in preparations for the civic polls would set a dangerous precedent ahead …

Northern Ireland Leaders Concerned After Abortion Law Changes

DW-UK.In October 2019, Northern Ireland moved a step closer to gaining the most liberal abortion laws in Europe. This is even though most political leaders in the province remain strongly opposed to abortion and polls indicate that the population of Northern Ireland does not support its imposition. The background to the change While abortion has been legal in most of the United Kingdom since 1967, and same-sex marriage since 2014, both remained illegal in Northern Ireland since they remained under the control of the devolved  Northern Ireland Assembly at Stormont. In January 2017 the Northern Ireland Assembly collapsed following ongoing disputes between the two largest political parties in the province the Democratic Unionist Party and Sinn Féin. The ensuing power vacuum saw political power revert to the UK’s Westminster parliament until the Assembly could be re-established. During this time two Members of Parliament for the opposition Labour Party, who represent English constituencies gained sufficient support to amend a UK finance bill so that if the Northern Ireland Assembly was not restored by 21st October 2019 …

Ennahda is considering choosing a candidate from its ranks to head the Tunisian government

(DW-TUNISI).Tunisia’s Islamic Ennahda Party may choose a candidate from outside its ranks to head the next government, while seeking consensus with key parties to form a coalition government, two sources said on Friday.  The Islamist Ennahda Party may choose a candidate from outside its ranks to head the Tunisian governmentAfter winning last month’s parliamentary elections, Ennahda became the largest party in the new parliament, but has only 52 seats out of 217, forcing it to choose a coalition government. Ennahda said earlier that it had decided that the prime minister should be among its leaders, because Tunisians had given her responsibility to carry out her election programs. But the proposal was strongly rejected by its potential partners, including the 22-seat Democratic Current, the People’s Movement (16), and the long-standing party of long-serving Prime Minister Youssef Chahed, long live Tunisia. Al-Karama’s conservative coalition, with 21 seats, is the only one to endorse Ennahda’s proposal. “There is a possibility that a non-party figure will be nominated to head the next government,” a Renaissance leader told Reuters. Ennahda …

Mr. Qais Said, 23 October was a historic day for all Tunisians

DW(TUNISI).Wednesday (23 October) was a historic day for all Tunisians, and even for all Arabs, in their “ambiguous” relations with the Arab revolutions. Contrary to the “Arab Spring” setbacks in many countries, Tunisians have been able to manage their revolution in a way that they are overwhelmed with. The arrival of Mr. Qais Said in the presidency represented a painful blow to the axis of counter-revolutions (led by Saudi Arabia and the UAE), and all their agents in the old system of government and joined after the Tunisian revolution of “new coup”, regardless of their ideological or pragmatic motives. On that day, the whole world was turning to Tunisia to hear the speech of President-elect Qais Said, a speech he made during the oath of office before taking office officially, succeeding the acting President of the Republic (and one of the symbols of the old system) Mohammed Nasser. What makes this event even more important is that the new Tunisian president succeeded in reaching the Carthage Palace, although he did not belong to the solid …

Ilva Conte

Qui i lavoratori …
